The global social network service Twitter has expanded its territory to Korea. Twitter's co-founder, Evan Williams, held a press conference on the 19th at the Banyan Tree Hotel and said, "The number of tweets in the Korean language have grown by 3,400% last year, and the growth has been remarkable during the last few months."
"Through this partnership, I hope Korean Twitter users will use it more conveniently, and this is just the beginning," Williams said, according to Nocutnews. Digital Times reports that Twitter service in Korean was introduced because the Internet in Korea is very fast, accessible, and used by a lot of people, therefore more Korean people are using Twitter. Twitter has also formed a partnership with Daum Communications and LG u+ and through this partnership, users can access Twitter easier by simultaneously logging on to Daum or by sending their Tweets to #1234 if they are subscribed to LG u+. All the services will be provided in Korean, but key terms such as "follow" and "retweet," which have been widely used in English by Korean users, will stay as they are in English. Williams also said "There is no plan for founding a Korean branch so far, and there is no immediate plan to introduce a special business model," reports Nocutnews.
